Position/Title: National Account Executive

Department: Destination Sales

Reports To: Senior Vice President of Destination Sales & Services

Status: Exempt; Full-Time

JOB SUMMARY:

Promote and sell the City of Minneapolis as a premier destination for conventions and meetings. Achieve individual room night goals to positively impact both hotel and Minneapolis Convention Center occupancies.

The primary market will be national association meetings and conventions requiring a minimum of 1,401+ peak room nights, with headquarters in Washington, DC, Maryland, and Virginia markets. This position can be located in a remote/home office within the DC, Maryland, or Virginia region, or at the Minneapolis headquarters office.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Achieve annual definite room night goals and other job-related goals as assigned.
• Actively prospect to develop business and generate new leads.
• Maintain communication on account activity through tasks, leads, updates, cancellations, definites and site tours.
• Manage progress of tentative accounts.
• Coordinate all aspects of bid proposals.
• Organize and conduct client site inspections and FAM tours as required.
• Update and effectively utilize all databases provided such as iDSS and MINT.
• Travel, as required, to attend business-related trade shows, sales missions, sales calls, training, meetings and presentations.
  • Remote employee is expected to work a full business week from the Minneapolis HQ office once per quarter.
  • Remote employee is expected to travel to Minneapolis to conduct client site visits and, if it is not possible, work with sales team to designate a national account executive to conduct the site visit on behalf of the remote employee.
• Develop and execute sales presentations.
• Professionally conduct phone conversations, electronic correspondence and personal visits with meeting planners, hotel sales personnel, and other hospitality industry partners.
• Attend and actively participate in all sales-related meetings, as needed.
• Attend Director of Sales, General Manager/Director of Sales and local industry meetings, as required.
• Take an active role in industry associations meetings, including meaningful participation in CVB Reps through attendance at client events and by supporting and amplifying the efforts of the Business Development Representative.
• Maintain a current base of knowledge of Meet Minneapolis partners to include hotels, Minneapolis Convention Center and other local venues, businesses or organizations that can assist our efforts.
• Strive to improve the effectiveness of the Meet Minneapolis sales organization and lead by example.
• Conduct all activities in a professional and ethical manner.
• Utilize all Meet Minneapolis technology to its complete capability.
• Effectively carry out duties as assigned by the President / CEO and the Senior Vice President Destination Sales & Services
• Perform other duties as required.

ESSENTIAL EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

• Four-year degree from an academic institution, business or hospitality preferred (not required).
• A minimum of five years of hospitality industry sales experience is required, with strong preference given to candidates who have successfully sold multi-property packages and/or convention center business.
• Extensive experience selling to the Washington, DC, Maryland, and Virginia markets is highly preferred.
• Valid driver’s license.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS/ATTRIBUTES:

• Strong and consistent ability to prioritize activities and handle multiple responsibilities within a specific time frame.
• Willing and able to work evenings, weekends and holidays based on client and office demands.
• Strong analytical skills to be able to determine quality of business and best-suited business opportunities for community.

• Both direct and indirect support of the attainment of the Meet Minneapolis Key Performance Indicators as defined in its contract with the City of Minneapolis.

• Skill and ability to develop and implement portions of a business plan and manage a budget.
• Excellent communication skills - written, oral, listening and grammatical.

• Software Skills: Customer Management Systems, Microsoft Office Suite

SALARY:

• $80,000 - $120,000 starting range for annual base salary (depending on location) plus sales incentive plan.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

• Hybrid office environment (60% in-office; 40% remote option) or fully remote if located in satellite home office in DMV area
• Regional and national travel, as needed, to trade shows, client visits and Meet Minneapolis partner and member events
