Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center is an independent, nonprofit organization providing adult cancer treatment and groundbreaking research focused on cancer and infectious diseases. Based in Seattle, Fred Hutch is the only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center in Washington.

The purpose of this internship is to provide training to students or recent graduates who plan to pursue a career in statistics or data science for supporting clinical research, medicine, public health, epidemiology, and/or social science.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities

The intern will be trained in a range of skills and techniques while learning the fundamentals of clinical research and biostatistics.

This includes:

• Understanding the conduct of trials, observational studies, and their data collection aimed at improving patient outcomes.
• Collaborating with clinicians and statisticians to formulate hypotheses and design the appropriate statistical models to interpret data.
• Use computational tools (R, Python, SAS) to manipulate datasets and perform rigorous statistical testing and data exploration.
• Communicate the results with reports and presentations to collaborators and assist in writing up methods and results for publication.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Able to use Microsoft Office and R programs.

• Good communication skills and an interest in learning.

• Ability to work in a team.

• Good numeracy, literacy and organizational skills.

• Willingness to be flexible in working hours, including working some evenings if needed.

The hourly pay range for this position is from $20.76 to $29.54 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications. This role may have the opportunity to work partially at our campus and remotely.
